I must have failed somewhere
between the words
and the deeds
Or among the words
and the deeds
over time
I must have failed somewhere
the few times-trodden paths,
Before the goodbyes, thank-you's, goodnights
And the waves
the unsaid, untouched, unturned
bestirred softly in darkness and moans
I must have failed somewhere
along the good intentions
- the attempts -
or among the reassurances
false reassurances
way back when...

One tries to make much sense,
these long lingering hours in the dark;
one muses over the meaning of what one can't
know; And
that's between "one"
and what wouldn't be shown
