you take a girl
and you give her an empowering thought
that she isn't all alone in the world
but she has herself

you take that girl
and you love her well beyond other things in this world
then you give her another empowering thought
that she has nobody but love to rely on

day is still day and night is still long
and the girl will think all her unempowering thoughts
she will toss and turn and question your love
asking herself is she all alone

whatever happens to the girl you took?
is that word still an innocent word?
do you know or don't you know?
